WASHINGTON, DC (April 20, 2024) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) released the following statement after voting to pass H.R. 8036, The Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, H.R. 8035, The Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, and H.R. 8034, The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, essential supplemental aid bills that advance America’s national security interests, protect critical allies overseas, and provide humanitarian assistance for vulnerable communities.

“We stand at a pivotal moment in our history, and it is imperative that we act decisively in America’s national security interests. With escalating tensions and the world watching, the United States must send a resounding message to the global community and show our unequivocal support to our Democratic allies overseas as they fight to defend themselves from oppressive regimes.

“Recent events in the Middle East and Eastern Europe have underscored the urgency for Congress to act. After careful consideration and with this in mind, I voted to support Ukraine as they counter Putin’s continued aggression, provide vital humanitarian aid to innocent civilians in Gaza, protect Israel from the threats posed by Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and other proxies, and bolster critical deterrence efforts in the Indo-Pacific region.

“These bipartisan bills are not perfect, but they address our immediate national security concerns and provide critical support to key allies and vulnerable communities. As we continue to navigate complex geopolitical landscapes, it is necessary that we work to pursue diplomatic engagement and de-escalation efforts to ensure lasting peace and long-term stability and security.”

The Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024 provides over $60 billion to address the conflict in Ukraine and assist regional partners as they counter Putin’s aggression. A summary of the bill can be found here, and the full bill text can be found here.

The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024 includes over $26 billion to support Israel’s efforts to defend herself against Hamas, Iran, and its proxies, while also delivering over $9 billion in humanitarian assistance to innocent civilians in Gaza and other vulnerable communities. A summary of the bill can be found here, and the full bill text can be found here.
