Are you interested in community development, public service, and congressional affairs? If so, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee is seeking applications for internship positions in her Durham, NC office for Spring 2026! The internship is in-person and paid.
District intern(s) should have knowledge of North Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District and issues constituents are facing. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering phones, conducting research, assisting with constituent casework, engaging in constituent correspondence, community outreach, and assisting with special projects at the discretion of the District Director. As a result, the intern will gain invaluable knowledge about our district and will be an integral part of the functioning of our District Office.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be a student at a community college or university. Undergraduate, graduate, and professional students are eligible to apply.
Time Commitment:
Each internship lasts 12 weeks. Part-time interns must commit to working 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Each shift must be at least 4 hours long.
Durham District Office Duties:
- Answering phone calls, managing email inquiries, filing documents, data entry.
- Assisting constituents with issues related to government services, casework management, and follow-up communication.
- Attending community events, assisting with outreach initiatives, and building relationships with local stakeholders.
- Gathering information on local policies, legislative proposals, and community concerns.
- Drafting letters, emails, and other correspondence to constituents on behalf of the office.
- Contributing to special projects, including event planning.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of issues and events in the district in which the Congresswoman is involved.
- Professional telephone etiquette.
- Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.
- Thoroughness and careful attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
- Knowledge of office computer applications and proficiency in word processing.
