WASHINGTON, DC (October 3, 2023) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04), released the following statement regarding the Motion to Vacate vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

“My constituents in North Carolina’s Fourth District and the American people deserve a government that can function,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04). “But for the entirety of this Congress, Speaker Kevin McCarthy has continuously led our chamber into chaos by encouraging extreme partisanship over working in a bipartisan manner, sowing distrust among both Democrats and Republicans.

“The integrity of our chamber is on the line, and we must put the best interests of the American people above all else. It is time for a Speaker of the House who will lead without yielding to extremists, will honor the bipartisan compromises that are made, and will put the needs of the American people first.”
