WASHINGTON, DC (May 16, 2023) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04), released the following statement after the Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly voted to override Governor Roy Cooper’s veto on the extreme 12-week abortion ban.

“Today, North Carolina Republicans made the decision to politically interfere with a woman’s right to bodily autonomy and erode our reproductive rights that generations of women before us fought for adamantly. This extreme bill will not only turn back the clock on years of progress, but it will disproportionately impact women of color and leave thousands across our state vulnerable.

“North Carolinians deserve better. I am deeply disturbed and outraged by this decision and will continue to fight to protect this fundamental freedom on the federal level, codify Roe, and ensure that abortion services are safe, legal, and accessible for all.”
