WASHINGTON, DC (February 13, 2024) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04), released the following statement after House Republicans voted to pass H. Res. 863, a baseless and illegitimate resolution to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

“Once again, House Republicans have proven that they are prioritizing political stunts over delivering real solutions to the American people,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04). “Today’s sham impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas is an unprecedented act of political expediency driven entirely by policy differences, and not by any legal or constitutional basis. Nothing has changed from last week’s failed attempt – there is still no evidence of an impeachable offense or wrongdoing, and it is absolutely shameful for House Republicans to target and besmirch an honorable and dedicated public servant.

“House Republicans have wasted enough time playing political games, and it is time for them to get serious about governing. Congress must pass real, bipartisan policy solutions that will address the challenges we are facing at the border and reform our broken immigration system.”
