Funding will support the Terminal 2 Landside Expansion project
DURHAM, NC (October 24, 2024) — Today, Congresswomen Valerie Foushee (NC-04) and Deborah Ross (NC-02) announced $12 million in federal funding awarded to the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority (RDU) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the FY 2025 Airport Terminal Program. This award will fund a portion of the Terminal 2 ticketing check-in, baggage claim areas, security checkpoint, and international arrival processing area. This funding will also significantly enhance accessibility with new and modernized restroom facilities and reconstructed arrival and departure curbs to comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
In September 2024, Congresswomen Foushee and Ross were joined by Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Ted Budd (R-NC) in supporting RDU’s application for this grant.
In 2023, RDU led the nation in growth with a record 14.5 million passengers and this year, the number of travelers is already 10.5% higher. Last month alone, more than 967,600 travelers flew through the airport.
“I am very pleased Raleigh-Durham International Airport will receive $12 million in federal funding to support its continued growth and expansion efforts,” said Congresswoman Foushee. “As one of the fastest growing airports in the country, this significant federal grant will expand capacity, modernize infrastructure, and enhance efficiency for the millions of passengers RDU serves. I am proud to help secure this funding alongside my North Carolina Congressional colleagues, and I am grateful for the Biden-Harris Administration’s continued commitment to improving and investing in our nation’s transportation infrastructure.”
“I am excited to see another historic investment coming to RDU,” said Congresswoman Ross. “As North Carolina continues to grow and attract visitors from all over the country and around the world, this funding will provide residents and travelers with a modern, efficient experience and help boost our local economy. I was proud to support RDU’s application for this critical funding and will continue working across the aisle to bring needed investments like this one back to the Triangle.”
