Congresswoman Foushee Rejects Inadequate GOP Continuing Resolution, Urges Passage of Bipartisan Agreement

WASHINGTON, DC (December 19, 2024) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 10515, the American Relief Act, 2025.

“House Republicans made the reckless decision to abandon the previously agreed-upon bipartisan funding bill and are following President-Elect Trump and Elon Musk’s orders to shut down the federal government. Instead of standing up for the American people, my Republican colleagues are intent on aiding billionaires, creating instability, undermining communities in need, and putting partisan agendas over the well-being of everyday Americans. This is an unsettling glimpse of how Trump and the Republican majority plan on governing in the next term, with irresponsible policies and political games that will further fracture our country and leave vulnerable communities behind.

“Today, I chose to stand with families, farmers, veterans, seniors, children and communities across the country in voting against this inadequate funding bill. I cannot support a last-minute funding measure that puts the priorities of unelected billionaires ahead of childcare for working families, funding for child cancer research, or economic assistance for farmers dealing with crop loss. Our communities deserve better – Congress must pass a comprehensive funding bill that includes both critical disaster relief and provisions that fully serve the needs of the American people. Should this legislation come up again under rule, I will vote against it once again.”
