WASHINGTON, DC (February 19, 2025) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) released the following statement in response to the Trump-Musk order to fire hundreds of thousands of federal employees.
“Trump’s firing of thousands of nonpartisan civil servants is a senseless approach to government efficiency. Government workers ensure safe transportation, provide support for veterans, protect national parks and waterways, assist small businesses, conduct critical scientific research, and many more services that this Administration is gutting to line the pockets of Trump’s billionaire friends,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04). “The livelihoods of over 50,000 federal workers in North Carolina are now at risk due to Trump’s unprecedented power grabs and political games. These firings will have devastating effects throughout our communities, and I will do everything in my power to fight back against this foolish and shameful decision.”
Multiple media outlets have reported that the Trump Administration has started firing federal employees from the Department of Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Education, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Department of Justice, Agency for International Development, and more.
