Gun Violence Prevention
As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, I have helped lead the effort within Congress to reinstate the federal assault weapons ban and advance important gun safety measures such as enforcing background checks on gun sales. These proposals also include expanded support for research and mental health services, hunter and gun safety education and community violence intervention programs, local gun buy-back programs and bans on high-capacity magazines.
Since the beginning of this Congress, House Democrats have signed discharge petitions to try and force votes on the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, the Assault Weapons Ban, Ethan’s Law – to ensure safer storage-, Keep Americans Safe Act, Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act, and legislation to block the Charleston Loophole. These bills represent sensible reforms that are popular with the American people and will vastly improve the safety of our schools, places of worship, and our communities as a whole.
