WASHINGTON, DC (February 6, 2024) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04), released the following statement after voting against H. Res 863, a baseless and illegitimate resolution to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

“Today’s vote to impeach Secretary Mayorkas is a partisan political stunt orchestrated by extreme House Republicans and is a shameful waste of time and hardworking taxpayer dollars. Reports have shown that there is no evidence of an impeachable offense or wrongdoing, and Republicans are simply using Mayorkas as a scapegoat for their intentional attempts to sabotage the Administration’s work to secure the border.

“This sham impeachment will do nothing to fix the challenges we face at the border, and it is critical for Congress to focus on real, bipartisan policy solutions that address systemic issues and reform our broken immigration system.”
