WASHINGTON, DC (January 7, 2023) —Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04), was sworn-in as a Member of the United States House of Representatives. Congresswoman Foushee is the first woman and person of color to ever represent North Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District.
“I am humbled and honored to be sworn-in to represent North Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District in Congress,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee. “I am committed to fighting for civil rights, protecting our democracy and voting rights, increasing access to health care, advancing opportunities for a quality education, improving our nation’s infrastructure, addressing the climate crisis, and much more. I look forward to serving my constituents and being a champion and a steady voice for them in Washington.”
Congresswoman Valerie Foushee represents North Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District, which includes all of Alamance, Durham, Granville, Orange, and Person Counties, and parts of Caswell County. She is a proud member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Progressive Caucus, and the New Democrat Coalition. She formerly served in the North Carolina State Senate and State House, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board.
