This plan examines the economic progress Democrats have made in Congress and outlines the next steps lawmakers must take to further reduce costs for hard working Americans.

WASHINGTON, DC (July 26, 2023) — Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) joins the New Democrat Coalition in releasing the Economic Opportunity Agenda to lower costs, fight inflation, and grow the middle class. This new plan builds on the New Democrat Coalition’s Action Plan to Fight Inflation.

“I’m proud to join the New Democrat Coalition in releasing the Economic Opportunity Agenda, a comprehensive roadmap which responds directly to the needs of the American people while keeping an eye on future generations,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04). “As we begin to see inflation cool, this bold agenda is the next step in improving our economic prosperity by growing our economy from the middle out and the bottom up. From lowering costs for hardworking families to making housing more affordable and accelerating the transition to a clean energy economy, I’m committed to championing and passing new solutions centered on bolstering the well-being of all American families and communities.”

In June 2022, when the U.S. inflation rate had reached its peak, the New Democrat Coalition released the Action Plan to Fight Inflation to help lower costs for American families, businesses, and consumers. The plan outlined actions President Biden and Congress could take to reduce the prices of essential goods and services so American families, workers, and businesses could thrive. Since then, House Democrats worked tirelessly to pass historic legislation to invest in America, create good jobs, secure our supply chains, bring back American manufacturing, and lower everyday costs.

The Economic Opportunity Agenda examines the progress Congresswoman Foushee and members of the New Democrat Coalition have made in implementing the Action Plan to Fight Inflation and provides a roadmap for the Biden Administration and lawmakers to advance policies that will continue to lower costs and give Americans the tools and opportunities needed to achieve the American Dream.

The Economic Opportunity Agenda aims to lower costs for families and address inflation by:

  • Strengthening supply chains;
  • Getting more people back to work;
  • Pursuing trade policies that support American workers;
  • Lowering energy prices and transition into a clean energy economy;
  • Increasing affordable housing;
  • Reducing out of pocket costs for Americans; and
  • Investing in the long-term fiscal strength of our nation and families.
