WASHINGTON, DC (June 12, 2025) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) introduced a resolution designating June 12 as Women Veterans Recognition Day to honor the extraordinary women veterans throughout American history who have answered the call to serve with unmatched bravery, resilience, and leadership.
“Women have long answered the call to serve, leading with exemplary strength, selflessness, and discipline, and it is long past time that Congress properly honors their sacrifice,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04). “June 12 marks the anniversary of the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act into law, allowing women to serve as permanent members of our nation’s armed forces. I’m proud to lead this resolution designating today as Women Veterans Recognition Day, and I am committed to continue working with my colleagues to advance polices that support our Veterans and uplift our nation’s heroes.”
The resolution recognizes trailblazing women including Army General Ann E. Dunwoody, Mary Edwards Walker, Loretta Perfectus Walsh, Lieutenant Elsie S. Ott, Jeannie Marie Leavitt, Captain Kathleen McGrath, Colonel Linda McTague, Simone Askew, the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, and the extensive legacy, sacrifices, and groundbreaking achievements of women veterans throughout American history.
