DURHAM, NC (December 27, 2024) — Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04), announced eight students from the Fourth District received nominations for admission into our nation's four service academies: the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
“It is an honor each year to nominate students in my district to our nation’s prestigious service academies,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04). “These next generation of military leaders have demonstrated academic excellence, service to our community, strong leadership, and success in their extracurriculars. I have been impressed by the many accomplishments of these exceptional students, and I wish them the best as they move forward in the military academy appointment process.”
Congresswoman Valerie Foushee named the following nominees to the nation’s four service academies:
- Luke Eward — U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy (Ocen Cove Academy)
- Evan Gerringer — U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy (Southern Alamance High School)
- Benjamin Hornstein — U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy (Durham Academy)
- Wright Kross — U.S. Air Force Academy (Chapel Hill High School)
- Yikuan Sun — U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy (Chapel Hill High School)
- Jacob Sullivan Robins — U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Jones Senior High School)
- K'Naya Williams — U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy (Vance County High School)
- Tyler Wilson — U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy (Camden Military Academy)
Receiving a nomination does not guarantee admission to an academy. However, a nomination from an approved nomination source is a requirement to receive an appointment. An academy appointment acceptance comes with a 5-year service obligation after the completion of 4 years at an academy.
