The Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program was established by the U.S. House of Representatives to provide employment opportunities for veterans, Gold Star Family members, and active-duty spouses within Congressional offices. The candidate selected for this position will join the Congresswoman's Durham District team as a Special Assistant/Driver and will coordinate safety and security logistics, assist with engaging veterans organizations and local law enforcement, and more. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing measures to safeguard from potential threats and risks, both in public and private settings. This role requires exceptional situational awareness, quick decision-making abilities, and the capability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local law enforcement, veteran affinity groups, emergency management staff, and paramilitary organizations.
- Build and nurture cooperative relationships with stakeholders, team members, and community leaders to facilitate smooth operations and effective collaboration.
- Provide close protection and oversight during activities, including public appearances, travel, and private engagements.
- Conduct continuous threat assessments and risk analysis to preemptively identify potential security vulnerabilities or dangers.
- Safely transport the Congresswoman to various locations within the district, ensuring efficient and secure transportation logistics.
- Manage access control points at various locations, ensuring only authorized personnel are permitted entry.
- Respond promptly and effectively to security incidents, emergencies, or medical situations, coordinating with local law enforcement and medical services as necessary.
- Arrange and oversee secure transportation logistics and routes, ensuring the safety of the political figure during domestic and international travel.
- Maintain clear and concise communication with team members and relevant stakeholders to coordinate security operations and exchange critical information.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience in law enforcement, military, or paramilitary; preferably in high-profile or executive protection roles.
- Extensive knowledge of security protocols, procedures, and best practices.
- Strong physical fitness and endurance, capable of standing, walking, and performing security duties for extended periods.
- Valid NC driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, based on the Congresswoman’s schedule.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Additional training in defensive tactics and advanced security techniques.
- Experience in event planning or coordination.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
This program is limited to veterans, Gold Star Family members, and active-duty spouses who meet all of the following requirements: Veterans must be Honorably discharged, released from active duty within the last six years, terminal pay grades at or below E-5, O-3, or W-2. Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6, O-4, and W-3 within 6-months of separation from active duty are eligible, granted they meet all other eligibility requirements. Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program. Gold Star applicants must be the spouse, parent/step-parent, sibling/step-sibling, child or step-child of a service member who died in the line of duty, or died from a service connected disability. Active-duty spouses must be a spouse of a service member serving on active duty in a regular component of the armed forces.
